are they not comprehending the severity of the situation at hand? are they insisting on stepping into the crosshairs within the lines of fire? simultaneously, the same can be said about silverio; never before had he envisioned himself in this sort of scenario, diving headfirst twenty-thousand leagues into a sea of chaos and destruction. the experiences gained during his esteemed "treasure hunt" in paldea (which, to this day, may have never truly concluded) pale in comparison to the blood, sweat, and tears being invested into salvaging the terrain that is now threatened by who-knows-what.[break][break]

regardless, silv seeks to make amends for past failures in some objectives, as well as for past complications with some of his superiors. in retrospect, if two wrongs don't make a right, then what could two rights make - those rights being, one, the defense of the routes connecting to the towns under duress, and two, the expulsion of the threats looking to establish their place in what can only be described as a nationwide warzone. all of the people he's met here in hoenn, and all of the pokémon that inhabit it...their livelihood are at stake, and the paldea-born ranger could not afford to lose any of them...[break][break]

or rather, any more of them...memories of what he once had return to haunt him...[break][break]

but with light pats on his cheeks, he shakes off those memories for the moment. right now, he aims to lock in on the matter at hand, that being this mysterious being before him and the entity summoned by them, it's emphatic roar rendering his hair a tad disheveled. "one of those, huh...?" a creature said to had been lost to time, one bearing a striking resemblance to a pokémon that was often told about in legends. he motions for his gliscor to sail towards him so that he address it properly. "go on out and alert the others; we may have a hostile situation on our hands..." with that, the fang scorp pokémon takes flight.[break][break]

he returns his gaze to the masked stranger, a visage the reeks seriousness. "i dunno who you are, or what you're after here, but if you're looking to sabotage this land, as well as all of the people and pokémon that inhabit it..." in his hand, a great ball is held. a ball donning a radiant azure hue similar to his eyes and tabs akin to streaks of crimson fire adorning it.[break][break]

a backhanded toss and the ball opens, revealing a heinous form - a nidoking sporting unnaturally blue skin that shined, challenging the opposing monstrosity with a proud roar in return. the beast stares down the opposition, similarly to how silverio has view many adversities and has tackled them head-on. and yet, another trial awaits...[break][break]

"then i'll advise you to look elsewhere; whatever your plan is here, i will not allow it to come to fruition."[break][break]

a rare instance, being challenged by a creature that is oftentimes speculated to have been extinct. tales of ancient paldean history have told of such a creature, but to see one himself, live and in living color? the ranger had not anticipated this sort of occasion, or at the very least, not anytime soon. regardless, there is action to be taken, that being to thwart this impending threat to the nature of all that inhabit this land. one that may prove to be a tall order, but one needing to administered all the same.[break][break]

suppose that a helping hand is needed, which is the intent behind silverio's direction for the gliscor, for it would require a combined effort to apprehend this masked stranger. but suddenly, before the flying scorpion could get anywhere, it is abruptly shot down by a heavy stream of concentrated water. "what...?!" seeing this, gliscor's trainer quickly unsheathes a ball, calling for the creature to return to its chamber for a rest.[break][break]

with his communicator on the fritz -- possibly resulting from some form of outside interference -- silverio is left with no other option but to face this timeless demon head-on. alone. if there's one thing to give credit for, it's the opposing trainer wasting no time in proceeding on the offensive, and it seems that they continue to do so. perhaps silverio can call this a subtle reminder of younger trainers waiting for challengers out in the wild.[break][break]

never having faced an entity like this one before, however, questions begin to creep into the mind of the paldea-born ranger. can he and his pokémon truly stand up to such a beast? how will failure here impact the environment? alas, these thoughts and more are tossed aside for the moment to engage this ancient behemoth that is now taking on the crystallized form of tera, a phenomenon most familiar to silv. his mind is telling him 'you got this', and his body is saying otherwise. alas, the mind overpowers the body and thus, the battle begins, with silverio and his nidoking increasingly eager to avenge their fallen comrade.[break][break]

a thundering roar stuns the nidoking. then a steaming burst of aquatic essence -- boosted in power by the fiend's terastal energy -- knocks him back a few feet. "we'll be alright, now let's go get 'em." he encourages his beast. nidoking pushes forward with static energy building around his horn, and after a few seconds, a thunderbolt cracks, shooting towards the terastallized menace. a lesson pertaining to such a feature that silverio vividly recalls from his time at the academy in paldea: tactical analysis -- a pokémon's type may change, but so will its weaknesses.[break][break]

"alive, indeed..."[break][break]

but perhaps the momentum may be shifting in his favor now. despite the early downfall of his flying scorpion, much like this stranger, silverio is quick to assert himself and his pokemon on the offensive. his nidoking's thunderbolt strikes true, giving the ancient aquatic deity pause for the moment, thus prompting its pilot to call for a layover in its ball -- to take a break, and maybe it was needed. of course, the paldea-born ranger can relate in that sense; overworking one pokemon in particular has always been something that he'd rather avoid. surely, there was some trainers out there whom apparently didn't know the meaning of a strategic retreat, but this person evidently does.[break][break]

an honorable decision.[break][break]

despite it being unexpected, silverio would prefer for this fight to be, above all else, fair. as her beast of supposed legend is withdrawn, another opponent -- perhaps equally vicious -- takes its place. the altaria's song quickly lulls silverio's beast into a slumbering submission. at that moment, regret sinks deeply in the man's skin; maybe he should've called his friend back as well. alas, there's no time to wait it out, for there's little chance of it awakening in time to finish the job.[break][break]

thus, he motions for the beast to return his ball, so that he can have a more peaceful sleep.[break][break]

and in a flash, he dispatches one of his most trusted partners in the form of a amphibian ninja warrior. shortly after emerging, a small accessory -- a bracer encasing a peculiar stone -- shines a hot white light on silverio's wrist. "it's all on you now, you've got this!" he announces as his greninja begins to shift, a giant shuriken forming on his back, taking on a revolutionary form. sporting the weapon from his back, and another in the form of a second water shuriken taking shape in his free hand, the frog heaves them at the altaria. an attempt to cut its song short.[break][break]

the shuriken appears to have made its mark.[break][break]

if there's one thing that silverio can give credit where it's due, it was the opposition's relentlessness. suppose that it was a lesson to be learned here; not every trainer or every opponent would as merciful as the next. in fact, this stranger is proving to be complete opposite -- cold, unforgiving, and relentless in their objective. come to think of it, the man could say that he'd been reminded of himself during his yesteryears as a student learning the ropes of battling.[break][break]

and yet, a valuable lesson is to be learned here: not everyone would be willing to play by the book when it comes to battling. suffice to say it's a lesson to be utilized in life as a whole. but if he weren't successful in defending oneself or the environment, then there may not be a life left to live. with that in mind, silverio and his poképals will continue the fight for as long as necessary.[break][break]

"you're doing great, keep it up..."[break][break]

the ancient behemoth's attacks, fierce but erratic, are easily avoidable for the empowered frog ninja. the mega-evolved greninja swiftly slides aside and away from the oncoming strikes, but an unsuspecting blast from the majestic cloud dragon knocks him back a few steps. the frog darts his eyes up to the airborne, accelerates towards a nearby tree and launches himself off from it -- a bounce way high, hopefully out of the prehistoric beast's reach.[break][break]

using the encouragement from his trainer, a highly pressurized stream of focused water spews from the mouth of the now airborne frog, en route to the altaria. the hydro pump looks to rain in on the cloudy creature's parade in the hope of alleviating the pressure on he and silverio, if only slightly.[break][break]

"no...it's not..."[break][break]

will the fight end anytime soon? or ever!? that remains to be seen, but as of this very moment, silverio persistence and perseverance would reign supreme. even as he faces the opposition dead in their masked face, questions continue to brew of what the future holds for the people of hoenn -- and all of humanity for that matter. but silverio hadn't expected to be able to gain an upper hand on anyone or anything here, especially not a raging demon that resembled an old pokémon that's been talked about in various legends.[break][break]

but with combined power of his adeqautly trained pokémon he has.[break][break]

the greninja is able to shoot down the altaria from the skies, rendering it falling fast. the ranger grimaces at the impact initiated by the emphatically powerfully water blast from his noble amphibian warrior. fighting for survival -- to live to see another day -- was not on his bingo card, but if it situation fills the line on it, he'll gladly take it.[break][break]

as the masked deviant recalls both of their creatures, the greninja devolves as it lands with both webbed feet slamming hard into the dampened soils, but to the victor would go no spoils today. only a dark memory of what has transpired here.[break][break]
